Beverly Hannah Jones, AIA honored

Beverly Hannah Jones, AIA, CEO of Hannah Murano Architecture was recently honored by the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc. (NANBPWC), Pontiac Chapter. Mrs. Jones was recognized as the first licensed African-American female to own and operate an architectural firm in Oakland County at the NANBPWC “Women of Distinction” event held on Friday, March 17, 2006 at Pontiac Northern High School.

Other honorees included Gloria O’Neal, President, UAW Local 594, Rosemary Corr, Former Dietetic Supervisor, Pontiac General Hospital, Connie Johnson, Former President, Pontiac Education Association, Andrea Williams, Assistant Dean, Oakland Technical Schools, NE, Geraldine Sanders, Assistant Jr. High School Principal and Alexandria Riley, student radio show host and writer for a local paper.

Honored posthumously were Anne D. Russell, former acting Librarian and Anna Baker Lane, former Assistant Principal. All honorees were the first African-American women in their named positions.
